EXT. NIGHT. OUTSIDE MUMBAI AIRPORT
A rush of anxious relatives, drivers and hotel representatives looking impatiently over one
another’s shoulders to see if their guest has arrived. The clock in the background reads 2.30
AM.
Amongst a sea of faces that we see a worried, tired and lost face.
A man of about 30 is standing there in a suit, looking worried. Frown lines on his forehead.
As he walks towards the waiting crowd, he switches on his cell phone. The Nokia welcome
tune plays. As soon as the network is set, the messages start pouring in.
Simultaneous supers:
"Hi! We were supposed to meet before you left on your tour! Anyway, will catch up once you
are back!"
"Wassup? Tried your number but it was off. Traveling again?"
"I waited 4 u to call bk frm d airport. Did the prblm get slved?"
His face registers no expression. He seems to be too tired. He does not reply to any of the
texts. He walks out, painfully pushing his trolley as he drags himself.
Everyone around him has Air France tags on their bags. His is Delta Airlines. His tag simply
reads "R.K."
RISHI KHURANA! BRITANNIA INDIA WELCOMES YOU! , screams a placard.
He walks past it, absent mindedly. Then his face suddenly registers an expression, for the
first time.
He turns back and slightly waves his right hand to the man with a little twist of his wrist,
gesturing him that his wait ends and he has found his man.
The white capped South Indian driver is pleased. Tonight he has gotten lucky! Usually he has
to wait hours before his client spots him.
DRIVER
Saar! This way please. My name Ranga.
AK gladly hands over the trolley to him.
EXT. NIGHT. AIRPORT PARKING LOT
The two are dodging potholes with murky rainwater and uneven bumps on the road. They
reach a swanky looking black Mercedes.
Ranga reaches the rear end of the car with the trolley.
RANGA
Saar, you please sit. I put bags in car.
He opens the locks with the autolock in his hands.
RK stumbles and opens the door. Ranga puts the bags in the luggage compartment.
AK’s door and the door to the luggage compartment shut at the same time, resulting in a loud
thud.
INT. NIGHT. INSIDE THE CAR
Ranga enthusiastically takes his seat. He adjusts the rear view mirror, tweaks his sparkling
driver’s cap and starts the ignition.
He looks into the rear view. His client is already half-asleep.
RANGA
Saar! Where to?
RK
Huh?
RANGA
Where go, saar?
RK
The Hotel. Obviously. Aur please zaraa jaldi. I am tired.
He shuts his eyes, looking thoroughly sleep-deprived.
Ranga is a tad disappointed.
RANGA
(Meekly)
OK, saar
They pull out of the airport parking.
EXT. NIGHT. MUMBAI STREETS/INSIDE THE CAR
In his last attempt to start conversing, Ranga switches on the radio. Out blares loudly "Yaar
binaa chen kahan re…"
RK
Oh! Bandh karo yaar! Paagal hai kya?
RANGA
Sorry. I switch off
EXT. NIGHT. MUMBAI STREETS
Shots of their car traveling in the trippy Mumbai night light.
EXT. NIGHT. OUTSIDE THE TAJ MAHAL HOTEL
They pull into The Taj Mahal Hotel driveway.
Ranga unloads the bags. RK is too tired to even notice that Ranga has wished him 'Good
Night'.
INT. NIGHT. INSIDE THE HOTEL LOBBY
RK moves towards the counter.
RECEPTIONIST
Hello, sir! Do you have a reservation?
RK
Umm.. Yes. In must be in the name of Britannia.
RECEPTIONIST
Let me just check for you.
RK nods. She checks her system.
RECEPTIONIST
Are you Mr. Lalwani?
RK
No! Why, is the reservation in that name?
RECEPTIONIST
No. The reservation is in the company name. Contact person is Mr. Lalwani. Give me a
minute sir. I need to call him.
RK nods, frustrated. He flips the pages of a magazine lying on the counter.
Receptionist appears with a smile on her face.
RECEPTIONIST
It's sorted sir. Can I please have your photo id?
RK hands over his passport. Receptionist looks at it and begins paperwork.
INT. NIGHT. HOTEL ROOM
RK enter the room and straight falls on the bed, all washed out. His bags lie carelessly right
in the center of the room. He doesn’t bother changing. He fumbles for the switches, without
even looking at the wall. Finds them. Lights out.
Fade out.

RANGA
Of course, of course saar! I will!
RK
Good!" he slaps him jovially on the shoulder.
RK fumbles in his pocket. He finds some loose cents. He hesitates a little, chooses a few small
denominations and hands them over to Ranga.
Ranga’s face brightens. He obviously does not know how much (or little) they might value.
Foreign currency seems high value to most average Indian eyes.
